African airlines saw15.6% rise in demand for air cargo in November 2025 – IATA
According to the latest data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), African airlines recorded a 15.6% year-on-year (YoY) increase in air cargo demand for November 2025.
This performance made Africa the fastest-growing region in the global air cargo market for that month.

Africa’s 15.6% growth rate significantly outpaced the global average of 5.5%.To meet this surging demand, African carriers increased their capacity (Available Cargo Tonne-Kilometres) by 18.1% YoY.
The surge was largely driven by robust trade activity on the Africa–Asia trade lane and a general shift toward air freight for high-value goods as shippers navigated changing global trade patterns.
While Africa and the Asia-Pacific (up 10.3%) saw double-digit growth, other regions, including North America (down 1.6%) and Latin America (down 4.8%), experienced declines.
Interestingly, Africa was a standout performer in the passenger sector as well, showing that the continent’s aviation industry is currently in a high-growth phase.
The high cargo demand reflects a resilient end to 2025, which IATA Director General Willie Walsh noted as a positive sign for the industry heading into 2026.
